Solving the Problem

Geogram produced Solving the Problem for BYD—a kinetic motion graphics film that reframes electric mobility from confusing range to reliable innovation, anchored in the world's safest batteries and a platform built around buses, trucks, forklifts, solar, and energy storage at scale.

Solving the Problem motion graphics — World's safest batteries that last
World's safest batteries that last

The brief

BYD needed to explain a complex technology story simply: why battery innovation matters, how range anxiety confuses the market, and what it means when one company builds around a single platform—from forklifts and trucks to tens of thousands of buses in revenue service. The film had to feel intelligent and forward-looking without a narrator—typography, metaphor, and motion carrying the argument in under two minutes.

The creative challenge was to move from problem to proof: from discarded ideas and shifting vision to persistence, perspective, experience, and the batteries everything else is built on.

The film

A ~1:31 motion graphics narrative, told entirely through on-screen type and animation:

  • With Innovation — opening heart motif and lightbulb: "If everyone With Innovation kept changing their vision"
  • The question — crumpled paper and a direct challenge: "How can they change the future?"
  • Small victories — iterative progress as problem-solving: "small victories as solving the problem"
  • Confusing range — a road-in-perspective metaphor for range anxiety, answered by "with reliability"
  • What it requires"Solving the problem requires: persistence" and "perspective"; "experience matters"
  • We start with batteries"World's safest batteries that last."
  • One platform"we build around our innovation" — buses, trucks, forklifts, solar, monorail, energy storage; "building bigger"
  • Scale"not hundreds of buses" but "tens of thousands of buses"
  • Proof132 million miles of revenue service; 28 million diesel gallons saved
  • Close"solving the problem faster""We are doing our part""now it is your turn to build your dreams" → BYD

What we delivered

Art direction

Visual system for a typography-led film—monochrome restraint, metaphorical objects (lightbulb, crumpled paper, road, battery block), and a clean path from problem to BYD proof.

Motion graphics & kinetic type

Animated on-screen copy across the full narrative—heart motif, perspective road, 3D battery platform diagram, bar-chart scale, and statistic reveals.

Video editing

Pacing and structure for a ~90-second argument—building from question to requirements to platform, scale, impact, and Build Your Dreams close.

Music selection

Score curated to support motion rhythm and narrative momentum—driving the film forward without competing with on-screen typography.

Color grading & finishing

Polished finishing for projection, web, and event playback—consistent grayscale palette with selective emphasis on statistics and closing BYD lockup.

The result

A motion graphics film that makes BYD's battery-first platform legible in ninety seconds—from the confusion of range to the world's safest batteries, tens of thousands of buses, 132 million miles in service, and 28 million diesel gallons saved. Solving the Problem gives BYD a reusable explainer for stakeholders who need the why before the product lineup—and ends by passing the torch: now it is your turn to build your dreams.
